Our Work

Conducted numerous studies in air-conditioning and refrigeration [HVAC&R] applications. Strong emphasis on technology evaluation, project management, measurement and verification, data analysis, and developing customized engineering models based on heat transfer and thermodynamics concepts for energy and thermal analysis of systems. In addition to several publications in technical and trade journals, contributed to revising "Retail Food Store Refrigeration and Equipment" chapter of ASHRAE's Refrigeration Handbook. Below is a partial list of research and evaluation projects.

Refrigeration

  • Cooling load analysis and energy usage of conventional and high efficiency refrigerated cases and vending machines

  • Flow pattern of air infiltration or entrainment phenomenon in refrigerated cases and walk-in coolers/freezers

  • Energy usage and effectiveness of anti-sweat heater control technologies for glass door of reach-in refrigerated cases

  • Effectiveness of several defrost strategies and technologies

  • Freeze point suppression cooling system with thermal energy storage

  • Effects of indoor humidity and product loading on energy usage of refrigerated cases

  • Direct-expansion compared to secondary loop systems for centralized refrigeration

  • Performance of various refrigerants (CO2, R-290, R-449A, R-134A, R-404A, and R-22)

  • Benefits of adding direct evaporative cooling system for air-cooled condenser of centralized refrigeration systems

  • Performance of air-conditioners specific to hot and dry climates

  • Effects of delaying indoor fan cycle off time for residential air-conditioners

  • Flexible load or demand response ready residential appliances

  • Add-on demand response controller for rooftop units

  • Retrofitting rooftop units with variable frequency drive compressor

  • Demand response for variable capacity rooftop units and variable refrigerant flow systems

  • Liquid desiccant for air dehumidification
